Steve believes in the core principles of the Republican Party.
Those include a belief in the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, reverence for the guarantees of rights and liberties provided by the Constitution, and the foundational principles of personal responsibility and the rule of law.
The Constitutions of the United States and of Colorado both state as their first purposes the establishment of Justice. The office of the District Attorney is the part of government most directly involved in guaranteeing those Constitutional aspirations to establish Justice. Steve has dedicated his professional career to breathing life into the Constitution’s promise to establish Justice.
Steve strongly believes that the primary responsibility of government is to protect the people. This is strongly reflected in his campaign slogan of, “Protecting our Community through the pursuit of Justice.” Insisting on a respect for the rule of law is the surest way to protect the people from the unlawful overreaching of others. President Ronald Reagan once said, “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” That concept of personal responsibility is a core belief of the Republican Party that is deeply ingrained in Steve’s personal philosophy.
The surest guarantee of one’s commitment to values is an examination of the actions they have taken in support of those values. Through a career of 33 years, Steve has demonstrated his commitment to the values of personal responsibility and the rule of law.
